We got a relaxing start to this day by hanging out at Kim, Geron, and Clara Spray's Westcliffe cabin one more morning. Raquel continued to take some lovely pictures.
From there, we traveled to Cañon City, Colorado. On the way we saw lots of white water rafting, which we hope to do on another trip when the kids are a little older. We ate lunch at a burger place called Sonic, where the we all enjoyed watching the roller skating waiters zip in and out of the restaurant, never losing their balance or spilling a drop. Near Cañon City we turned off to see the Royal Gorge canyon. We didn't have a camera at this point, but the view is spectacular.
There is a bridge to cross the canyon, a tram, a swing, a train, and all sorts of ways to appreciate the beauty of the gorge, but we didn't have much time and they were all astoundingly expensive as the whole area is privately owned and developed.
Our destination for the day was Colorado Springs, the city where Corita's oldest brother Larry lives. In Colorado Springs, we hooked up with Corita's sister Kim (who flew out from Washington, D.C.) and Corita's mom Nancy (who flew up from Honduras). It was a lovely reunion, with a picnic in the Garden of the Gods. Larry's partner Deepa made a delectable dinner, which we enjoyed at a picnic site surrounded by the outstanding red rock structures of the park.
This last structure was particularly visible to us. It's called "Kissing Camels." Can you see the camels? It was a gorgeous evening with a full moon (although not the full moon you see in the picture) and it was great to spend time together.
