Travel Day 4

Sunday.  The kids went to church early for Sunday School.  Terry, David, and I went just for the service.  Oh, was it good to be back in one of Michelle's services!  (Michelle Vetters is a Presbyterian pastor.)  Among other things, she clarified for us that there are four types of poverty: self-selected (vow of poverty), caused by calamities (floods, drought, etc.), self-induced (laziness or addictions), or caused by oppressive structures (political or economic).  Interestingly, the Bible focuses most of its message on poverty created by injustice.  Also interesting is that statistically the majority of Biblical emphasis is on idolitry, followed by discussion of poverty (which Michelle pointed out are linked, especially if the poverty is created by injustice - those of us who "have" perhaps idolizing the material world and not assuring an equal distribution for the "have nots").  In addition to the thought-provoking sermon, the worship was lovely.  The sanctuary is "in-the-round" and the communion is taken at a general table in the center.  After the worship service there was a potluck lunch and an ice-cream social with homemade ice creams!  What a treat!

On the way home, Terry took us to get our cell phones, finally!  It took us most of the afternoon and some of the evening to get them functioning correctly, but we are now equipped.  If you need our numbers and didn't get them, just send us an email.

After a finger-licking dinner of ribs and corn-on-the-cob, we headed out to one of San Antonio's many greenbelts that line the creeks.  San Antonio has many wonderful parks and greenbelts for jogging, walking, or bike riding.  We took the Vetters' Great Dane "Flower" along for the walk.  All in all it has been a wonderful time with the Vetters.
