We had a LONG trip, starting at 3:30 a.m. in La Esperanza, Honduras and finally arriving at Michelle and Terry Vetter's home in San Antonio, Texas around 8:00. We had a couple of near mishaps, but all turned out fine in the end. For one, we didn't have the kids' Honduran documents on us and it turned out they needed those too. In a moment of unexpected Honduran efficiency (as close to a miracle as I may have seen!) David went to the registrar office in the nearest city (Tela) and was back with computer printouts of their Honduran birth certificates in half an hour!! Our next near mishap was simply due to a misjudgement on the local time. Arriving in Houston, our flight attendant had told us it would be close but he thought it was possible we would make our connecting flight to San Antonio. If we missed it, there was another flight an hour and a half later. With that in mind, and only noticing the minute hand apparantly, I thought we had mere minutes after exiting the international area. We were quite the spectacle as we raced through the airport, arriving at our gate 5 minutes late! Only, it turned out we were 55 minutes early and had a good laugh. At least we got some exercise!
Michelle and Terry received us graciously with a delicious and easy to make dinner. That was number 1 in our list of recipies to reproduce at home. And then finally to bed... Joel wasn't too happy with the cat in whose room he was staying. Turns out Leah Vetters cohabitates with her cat. The cat was happy to have someone in the room to snuggle with (Leah being away at camp) which Raquel enjoyed. Joel was spooked by the cat, however, not having lived with any cats before.
